ANIMATION PLAYGROUND

Suitable for any age

Take a shape for a walk and see where it takes you. Watch it morph, grow, shrink, change colour, make friends, dance and PLAY!

Join our team of animators to create part of a big communal animation. Use stop motion animation techniques to explore a world of shape, colour and movement.

This year the BIG DRAW theme is LIVING LINES: An Animated Big Draw Festival

The Big Draw Festival is the biggest drawing festival in the world. It has taken place in 28 countries and has engaged over 3 million people.

"From 1 - 31 October, drawing activites connect people of all ages and schools, galleries, museums, libraries, heritage sites, village halls, refugee organisations, outdoor spaces..."

Folkestone Library: Storybook Beast Workshop

50 participants got creating at Folkestone Library on 27th October 2017.

The 2D, paper cut-out characters were brought to life in our big storybook forest. We used a Canon DSLR to capture our animation with DRAGONFRAME software. 

Espression Arts: Spooky Forest Workshop

This BIG DRAW drop-in workshop at Espression Arts Cafe was a true team effort by participants from toddlers to grannies. Our 2D cut-out animation was animated using pins on foam-board panels. Communication and timing is key when animating with a large number of people, we had some fantastic young directors who kept everything running smoothly. 

Saltwood Play and Learning Centre: GROW

The 2 and 3 year-old BIG DRAW participants as Saltwood Play and Learning Centre discovered the magic of animating with chalk. We talked about growing from seeds and the children created rain and sunshine to grow their animated plants and flowers.

BOUNCE VINTAGE: Bouncy Ball Workshop

This pop-up BIG DRAW workshop took place sandwiched between the vintage shirts and dungarees in Bounce Vintage in Folkestone's Old High Street. We had a great day accosting members of the public and getting them animating. Bouncy ball animating is a very quick yet rewarding activity to start to understand some of the basic fundamentals of animation. 

This set-up used our custom-made iPad stands, the Stop Motion Studio App and cut-out paper balls.
